A new 3,000-gallon fire tanker could be on its way to the county.

Councillors supported awarding the contract to supply the tanker to Dependable Emergency Vehicles of Brampton during last week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting. The quoted price of $278,700 plus applicable taxes falls under the $345,000 set aside with the 2018 fire department capital budget for the purchase.

The County issued a request for proposals for the tanker in January and received four submissions. Based on cost, design, warranty, service and delivery, Dependable Emergency Vehicles’ submission received the highest score.

A report presented to councillors at last Thursday’s meeting says the company has a reputation for excellent customer service along with a good warranty program. The truck is expected to be delivered within 330 days from the date of purchase while the average delivery time is about 240 days according to the report.

The purchase will allow old apparatus to be declared surplus and sold and it is estimated the proceeds from the disposal will generate about $10,000. That money will be transferred to the reserve for fire equipment to help fund future capital needs.
