Info For Seniors: Hot meals are available throughout the county

Community Care is accepting requests for delivery of hot meals from seniors who live in Cherry Valley, West Lake, Wellington and Wellington on the Lake, anywhere in Hillier and Ameliasburgh wards, Bloomfield and area, and Picton.

If you’re a senior 60-plus and you need hot meals delivered to your home except where you live isn’t on the above list, don’t let that stop you from calling us. We’re always looking at the next area that needs hot meals delivered to seniors. You see, this program is one of the best services to help seniors live at home safely and comfortably. Our amazing volunteers deliver hot and tasty meals and there’s that important reassurance factor, too.

Hot meals are available five days a week in Picton and 2-4 days a week in other areas. We’re often asked where the meals are prepared so here’s the list. Monday meals are prepared by the kitchen staff of H. J. McFarland Memorial Home and on Thursdays the staff at Hallowell House do the cooking.

Both of these homes have been providing meals for Meals on Wheels since the program was established in 1980. We thank all the staff over all these years for their commitment to seniors. Chef Bill Grieve and his wife Marni are the proprietors of Wheel House & Occasions Catering and they have been a Meals on Wheels provider for Wednesdays and Fridays for many years. For even more years Bill and Marni have been catering our Seniors Luncheon Social program. A big thank you to Bill and Marni for the scrumptious food they prepare for seniors. Darlin Debbie’s Restaurant in the Rossmore Stop has been a meal provider for many years and we thank Debbie and her staff for all they do. A meal provider for a year, the County Yum Club is preparing tasty offerings every Tuesday. With their help we are able to offer meals to Picton and area seniors five days a week.

Community Care volunteers have been delivering hot meals to seniors since 1980. They are still going strong, too. The thing is that when we move the hot program into new areas we need volunteers from that area. We welcome more volunteers from all areas.

Is a cruise or trip in your future plans? It doesn’t matter if you’re a traveller and your time is limited, we can work around that. The efforts of many make it possible to get the meals where they need to be day after day, week after week, year after year. Can you do this small task that makes a huge difference in the lives of County seniors? Call us today at 613-476-7493 and you’ll hear a friendly voice that will make you an appointment to start the conversation about volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

Community Care also offers a wide selection of frozen meals that are low in sodium, nutritious and delicious, too. As with our hot program, these meals can meet the medical needs of seniors. People can order as many entrees, desserts and soups as they wish, as often as they wish. The cost is reasonable and delivery is included. Pick up can be also arranged.
