Alice A. Hanna (nee Henderson)
The remarkable and beloved mother of Gail Dick and husband Dennis (Bloomfield, ON), of Rod Hanna and wife Maureen Ballad (Kingston, ON) and of the late Gary (Cheryl), passed away gently and peacefully with her family by her side at Prince Edward Memorial Hospital on August 9, 2018 at the age of 95. Beloved and devoted wife of 52 years of the late Lynn. Predeceased by her siblings and in-laws, brothers Bill (Jean) and Robert (Christine) Henderson of Alberta and Norma (Ted) Nichols of Kingston, ON. Also predeceased by her dear granddaughter, Andrea (Bill) Chew. Remembered for her icebox cookies and forever in the hearts of her grandson and family, of grand-daughter Sarah and husband David and family, and also by her Dick grand-family, Lisa Burke and husband Peter and by Andrew Dick and wife Samantha and families. Alice was adored as Great Grammie and Nanna Hanna by her 13 great-grandchildren. Auntie Alice will be remembered in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews in Kingston, ON, and High River and Calgary, AB, for her visits, love, support, afghans and many kindnesses. Remembered fondly by former son-in-law, Peter Williams (Sue). Alice lived in the Point Pleasant neighbourhood of Kingston for 71 years, 59 of them in her current home. She has made many dear friends in “The Point” over the years. The neighbours are familiar lately seeing her driving off in her car “Ruby” to Pool Pals at St. Mary’s or Horticulture meetings. As much as she was a great friend and neighbour she was also the recipient of much kindness and love from her neighbours and friends, especially as her health has declined these past 2 years. Alice was a generous woman devoted to her husband and family. She shared many hours with her children and grandchildren reading, cooking, baking, camping, and sharing her love of gardening. She and Lynn believed in always helping others and instilled this value in their family. It carried over strongly into their politics and world views. We also learned to have fun outside; to swim, sled, skate, play sports, golf and ski even though resources were limited. We also travelled and camped to be aware of and value our beautiful country. Alice was a humble woman with very little idea of the number of people she touched with her generosity in her 95 ½ years of living. She shared food and of course plants and her wisdom in her ability to grow anything green. She asked for nothing in return except perhaps to “Pay It Forward”! Alice lived her life well and gently with her sharp mind and amazing memory to the very moment of her decision to rest. She leaves us with so much but always with our family motto: ASK ALICE!!! A celebration of Alice’s very full life will be held on Saturday, September 1st, 2018 at 2 pm at Unitarian Place, 206 Concession St., Kingston, ON. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers would be kindly appreciated by the family to Lymphoma Canada, USC-Canada (Unitarian Service Committee) or Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.
