For the second time this week, Prince Edward OPP have announced they have laid charges in relation to a report of historical sexual assaults.

On Monday, April 20,  officers with the Prince Edward detachment responded to a report of alleged historical sexual assaults.

An investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Prince Edward County Crime Unit into occurrences beginning in approximately 2009.

On April 25, 2020 a search warrant was executed at an address on Pitt Street in Picton. As a result, a 67-year-old male from Picton was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Sexual assault – sec. 271
  • Sexual assault on a person under 16- sec. 271
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age – sec. 152
  • Voyeurism- sec. 162(1)
  • Criminal harassment- threatening conduct – sec. 264(2)(d)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date. The name of the accused cannot be released to protect the identity of the victims.

Prince Edward OPP confirmed today’s announcement was in no way related to charges levied against a 22-year-old Belleville man earlier this week in relation to sexual assaults dating back almost ten years that took place in Picton.
