Four charged as a result of early morning drug raid

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, members of the Prince Edward County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment, the East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Canine Unit and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) executed a search warrant at a residence on Nery Avenue in Picton.

As a result of the execution of the search warrant, police seized of a quantity of cocaine, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), three cellular phones and a collection of Canadian currency.

OPP have charged Tanasha McCrindle, 23, Joseph Newton, 20, Derick Reid, 23 and Jody O’Brien, 32, all from Picton with the following offences:

• Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine – section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

• Possession of a schedule three substance – psilocybin (magic mushrooms) – section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

• Possession of property obtained by crime – section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused parties were released on an undertaking to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 15, 2020.
