Blood donor clinic returns to Picton Dec. 14

Dear Editor,

On behalf of Canadian Blood Services and the patients we serve, I would like to express our immense gratitude to Prince Edward County blood donors and community partners for their past support.

We ask them again for their help on Monday December 14, as our mobile event returns to Picton.   Hospitals have started to resume procedures that were put on hold due to COVID-19, and Canadian Blood Services is looking to the Picton community to book their appointments for the next mobile event. We know things are different now, however, what hasn’t changed is the constant need for blood, especial in these uncertain times.

Donated blood is delivered to over 700 hospitals across Canada and approximately 17,000 units of blood are needed each week.  Make saving a life your greatest gift. Donating blood this holiday season is one of the most generous things you can do for someone in need.

The next donation event for Picton is scheduled to run Monday December 14, at the Prince Edward Community Centre, 2-7 p.m. Currently there are over 38 open appointments that need to be filled.  Blood donors are needed this holiday season to book and keep appointments to ensure patients’ needs are met. For more information or to book an appointment please visit blood.ca as appointments are now required.

I would also like to recognize The Corporation of the County of Prince Edward for their outstanding dedication and commitment to the blood program. The administration, staff, and council have worked tirelessly to find us a location in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. With their assistance we were permitted to utilize the space at the Wellington District Community Centre during the summer months. On Monday December 14 we are thrilled to be returning to the Prince Edward Community Centre and invite residents to make an appointment.

Please remember that every donation counts. The demand for blood, plasma and stem cell donors never stops.

Thank you,

Debbi Barfoot
