Two people arrested after flight from police

A pair of Belleville residents were arrested after trying to flee a traffic stop in Picton early Wednesday morning.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment conducted a traffic stop this morning shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Church Street in Picton.

After speaking with officers for a period of time, the vehicle then fled the scene.

The vehicle was located a short time later in a driveway off of Loyalist Parkway near Hatchery Lane. The occupants had left the vehicle.

With the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team, two individuals were located and arrested.

As a result of a search of the vehicle, officers located a quantity of suspected cocaine, three cell phones, a variety of drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.

Trevor Cox, 31, from Belleville was arrested and charged with the following offences:

·        Breach of recognizance – CC 811 – two counts

·        Obstruct peace officer – CC 129(a)

·        Possession of a schedule 1 substance- other drugs- CDSA 4(1)

Also charged was Alicia Miller, 30, of Belleville with the following offences:

·        Breach of recognizance – CC 811- four counts

·        Obstruct peace officer – CC 129(a)

·        Possession of a schedule 1 substance- other drugs – CDSA 4(1)

·        Flight from peace officer – CC 320.17

·        Fail to comply with probation order – CC 733.1(1) – four counts

·        Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – CC 88

·        Dangerous operation – CC 320.13(1)

·        Assault peace officer – CC 270(1)(a)

Both individuals were held for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 20, 2021.
