Police respond to collisions involving allegedly impaired motorists

Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with more alleged impaired related offences over the weekend.

On Saturday January 21, 2023 shortly after 3:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision. The vehicle was located on Main Street in Picton and the driver spoken to. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and taken for further testing. Jason Parent, 41 from Ottawa, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs – CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Dangerous operation – CC 320.13(1)

The driver was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 15, 2023. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.

Later on Saturday, shortly before 5:30 p.m., officers received a report of a motor vehicle collision on County Road 4 in Picton. The report stated one vehicle had left the scene. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. An approved screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. Lee Kelly, 53 from Prince Edward County, was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration – CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous operation – CC 320.13(1)

The driver was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 15, 2023. They also had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for a period of seven days.
