The Delta Test Vehicle: Conserving a Cold-War Archaeological Artifact a presentation by Kate Sullivan
In the summer of 2018, an archaeological Cold-War era artifact was recovered from the bottom of Lake Ontario. The Delta Test Vehicle or DTV as it would come to be known, was discovered during the Raise the Arrow Project, a project that was undertaken to search for the Avro Arrow free-flight models that were launched during testing from 1954 to 1956. Upon recovery the DTV required extensive conservation to ensure that it could be preserved for display and study. Conservation was carried out by a team from the Canadian Conservation Institute in Ottawa. In this presentation, Kate Sullivan, lead conservator on the project, will be providing a behind-the-scenes look at the preservation efforts that went into this artifact.
