Alan Warren Klein was called to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2026 at the H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton, Ontario. Alan was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 7, 1947. After growing up in a quiet neighborhood in Detroit, Alan graduated from Redford High School in 1965. In 1967 he met and married the love and light of his life, Margaret “Marnie” Reichert. They decided to move across the Detroit River to Windsor, Ontario, and while Marnie pursued her nursing career, Alan became certified as a helicopter pilot and became a Canadian stockbroker. After a short spell in Windsor, the young couple decided to move to Toronto where jobs were more plentiful and varied. Among their many new friends they met people who lived outside of the city and their passion for animals and that same rural life led them to co-found Story Book Farm, a small sheep farm in Colborne. Alan soon became interested in dairy farming and he and Marnie operated several dairy farms in the area. Friends remember Alan and Marnie as inseparable, likable, and kind. Alan was sincerely interested in other people and what was going on in their lives. Those who knew him said his deep voice and incredible recollection skills would have made him a sure thing in radio. Alan could be seen driving around Prince Edward County on motorcycles, sports cars, and a Dodge Ram truck, whose license plate read “RAM47.” Among Alan’s other hobbies were photography, boats and sailing. Alan was passionate about many things: Marnie, his family and friends, politics, sports teams including all of the Detroit teams, the Los Angeles Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Montreal Canadiens. He loved and craved Detroit’s famous hot dog, the Coney Island. Friends will remember and miss Alan for his infectious, if a bit mischievous, laugh. Alan was preceded in death by his wife Marnie, his father Warren Klein, his mother Verna Young Klein, his brothers David and George, and his sister-in-law Barbara. Alan is survived by his sister, Carol Klein Towne, his sister in law Carol Pusch Klein, and many nephews and nieces including his beloved niece and caregiver, Leslie Towne Worf. Alan and Marnie are also survived by their very dear friends, Garry and Susie Mensen. A graveside service will be held at the East Bloomfield Quaker Cemetery, 171 Bloomfield Main St, on Monday, May 25th, at 4pm.
