Alexander Lloyd Galloway “Alec”

January 18, 1942 - March 31, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Alec. He died happily at home in his favourite chair at 3:24 pm, Monday, March 31st. with medical assistance in dying (MAID), surrounded by his devoted family. Alec left this world as he lived his life, “He did it his way.” Alec leaves behind his soul mate, life partner and travel companion Denise Galloway (nee Sisty). His wonderful son Sebastian James Galloway and precious grandson Declan James Galloway. He is fondly remembered by sister in-law Diane Bayley, nieces Nikkita (Brendan), Sasha (Clayton), brother in-law Daniel Sisty (Karen), nephews Christopher (Erica), James.
Alec was born on January 18, 1942, in Sale Manchester, UK (as the bombs were dropping, Alec always loved to say). Alec was the third son of James Lloyd Galloway and Hylda Mary Galloway (nee Dixon, both deceased). He is predeceased by both his brothers Donald James Galloway (Janet) and John “Jock” Herbert Galloway. Survived by his younger sister Mary MacCrimmon Galloway (Manfred), nephews Steven Galloway (Marianne) Tom Galloway (Tracy), great nieces & nephews Zoe, Archer, Riley & Lenora, biological daughter Lee Morgan.
During the war years 1942-1945, Alec and the Galloway family moved several times in England until his father was posted to Berlin (British Sector), 1946-1949. Alec moved back to Bushey, England, 1949. Once again, the family moved, this time to Geneva, Switzerland, 1952-1955. Returning to Eastbourne, England in 1955. Then in 1956, Alec and family immigrated to Canada. Choosing to live in Westmount, Montreal, Quebec. Where Alec went to high school. As a teenager, Alec became an air cadet and got his pilot’s license.
During his university years, Alec spent his summers working in Banff. He graduated with a BA in History, Carleton. He first worked in insurance and then retail, but quickly settled into teaching. He and his first wife Rhonda Morgan (nee Head) moved to Morin-Heights, Quebec for 1 year to teach. Alec then moved to Picton, Ontario, Prince Edward County to take a teaching position at the local high school Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. Alec had a long happy career at PECI. Over the years he taught Geography, History, Family Studies, became a Guidance Counsellor and then Guidance Head. He thoroughly enjoyed those years with his friends and colleagues. He retired from full-time teaching in 1999 after 32 years of dedicated service. Alec stayed as a part time teacher with the local school board for another 13 years.
Aside from teaching, Alec was a world adventurer, traveling with good friend Marty Martel for a number of years. Alec belonged to Prince Edward Yacht Club for many years. He was an avid sailor: racing and leisure sailing. He co-owned a Viking 28 “Regardless” with Dr. Leslie B Summers. He enjoyed down hill skiing, was an enthusiastic football and soccer fan & soccer coach. Any free time he had was spent building, renovating his home, and helping friends with their building projects. Alec built and ran a little guest house on his property “The Nest”. For 14 years Alec hosted people from around the world. He regaled his guests with his life stories and travels. They came back year after year.
In 1983 Alec met his match in Denise Sisty. From the moment they danced together, they were inseparable. They married on October 5, 1985. Alec and Denise have had 42 wonderful years together. Sailing, skiing, diving & snorkeling, travelling the world, building their home together on Hill Street in Picton, raising their son Sebastian there. Living the good life for 39 years surrounded by friends and family. Three years ago, Alec & Denise moved to Port Dover, Ont. for the last lap. Always living in the moment, enjoying life with family and friends, and enjoying world adventures together.
In the last few years, Alec’s health began to decline with congestive heart failure and FTD. Alec was determined to leave this world peacefully and with dignity. And so, his doctor pursued the option of MAID for him and he was accepted.
Alec and his family would like to extend their most sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Kumanovski & Sandra, Dr. Hynscht & staff, Dr Malo & staff, the MAID personnel, Barbara of Serenity Burial & Cremation Services Inc. for their compassion, kindness, support and swift attention.
As per Alec’s wishes there will be no funeral or celebration of life. Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the heart and stroke foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Condolences may be made online at Serenity Burial & Cremation Services Inc., Port Dover. www.serenityburialandcremation.com.

I’ve lived a life that’s full.
I traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
 I did it my way.”

Ode to Alex – A Rich Man
When the tallyman comes callin’
He doesn’t ask what’s won or lost,
Or where you’ve been or what you’ve done.
There is no score for balanced books,
For gold is only the eyes’ response.
The measure of life is counted
Simply in the family and the friendships
That stand beside you day to day.
The MacKays
The Putmans
The Bodys.
