Alice Viola Geddis (nee Whitworth)

September 23, 1921 - July 23, 2024

On the 23rd of July, 2024, we lost our dearly loved mother, Nana, great grandmother, and friend at 102 years of age to pneumonia. Alice passed away peacefully at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton, Ontario with family by her side. Alice was born and raised in Thorold, Ontario and was fortunate to have wonderful family: Albert and Lyall Whitworth (nee Damude), as well as her sister Leona and brother Bill. Her family was an old one in the Niagara region. She met and fell in love with her future husband Jack Geddis while working at The Bell Telephone Company. They were married and had two children, Janet O’Brien and John Geddis. Alice was a skilled artist and displayed her natural talent at a young age. She continued creating her beautiful oil paintings and sketches throughout her life until macular degeneration prevented it. She was charming with a quick wit and a great sense of humour. She always had a book in hand, or close by, to satisfy her passion for reading. She also enjoyed a game of bridge with her friends wherever she lived. She was happy to participate in family or friends’ discussions (sometimes loud) about books, politics, religion, history etc. Alice met difficulties in her life with strength, courage, and dignity. She is predeceased by her husband Jack, her brother Bill, and her sister Leona. We will miss spending time with her. We will miss her humour, kindness, and loving interest in all of our lives. She was a good listener and, when asked, would give us sensible and helpful advice, which was much appreciated. She was well loved. We will keep her beautiful spirit alive in our memories and by telling her story. With all our love: Janet O’Brien (Dennis), John Geddis (Jane), grandsons: Sean (late wife Michelle), Graham (Jen), and Evan, and great grandchildren: Evan, Laura, Amy, Maddie, and Sam. Alice Geddis rested at Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). Cremation has taken place. A family Graveside Service will take place at a later date. If desired, donations to: Prince Edward County Arts Council or Tribute Giving (Sheridan College) in memory of Alice. Online condolences at: www.rushnellfuneralhomes.com
