Claire Coralie Ferreira of Picton, Ontario, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, at the age of 88.
Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband, Denis, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. She leaves behind six children: Tamara (Paul) Elliott, Yolande (Scott) Wentworth, Brian, Richard (Beth), Peter (Brenda), and Mary (Chris) Smith; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Claire’s faith in God was the foundation of her life and a source of strength, comfort, and hope through every circumstance. She sought God with all her heart and was richly blessed—not with a life free from difficulties, but with a life filled with faith, purpose, and hope. Her late husband, Denis, was likewise a man of great faith, always ready to share his beliefs whenever the opportunity arose. Together, they established a lasting example of devotion to God and trust in His promises.
Claire’s commitment to walking with her Lord touched everyone who knew her. Her six children grew up attending Sunday School, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all witnessed the importance of faith in her life. Even in her final days, she often remembered her Creator and remained deeply concerned for her family. Her heartfelt desire was that each of them would come to share her faith in the one true God and the hope that had sustained her throughout her life.
Claire had a special gift for seeing those who might otherwise be overlooked. In any gathering, she would seek out the lonely or those standing on the sidelines and find a way to include them. To Claire, there were no strangers—only people she had not yet come to know. She listened with genuine interest, eager to learn about others and their lives. She cared deeply about everyone’s well-being and carried a long list of people in her prayers.
Her hospitality and generosity were legendary. Her home was always open, and there was rarely a shortage of food, music, dancing, games, or laughter. She had a remarkable way of bringing people together, making them feel at home and leaving them with the sense that they truly mattered. Her warmth and kindness created countless cherished memories for family and friends.
For the last three years of her life, Claire resided at MLP in Picton, where she became much loved by staff and fellow residents. True to her nature, she continued to make those around her feel special, sharing her interest in others and her cheerful spirit.
Three days before her passing, Claire was admitted to Picton Hospice, where she received wonder-ful and compassionate care. Family and friends gathered to comfort her and share precious final moments, bringing her love and joy as they said their goodbyes. Throughout this time, Claire remained cheerful and continued to show her characteristic interest and concern for others.
Claire will be remembered as a beautiful woman of God whose faith, generosity, and love touched generations. Her influence lives on in the many lives she enriched and in the example of faith she leaves to her family. We look forward with confidence to the promised hope of the resurrection, when those who sleep in death will be raised to life again.
