Entered into rest at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Daphne Baraczka (nee Schofield) of Picton, died peacefully at the age of 85. Daughter of the late Theo and Connie Schofield (nee Burgess) and wife of the late Joseph Baraczka. Loving mother of Emma Dobell (Andrew Wunsch) of East Lake and Léon Dobell (Lisa) of Whitby. Grandmother of Christopher (Amanda) of Burlington, Michael (Sarah) and Meagan (Ryan) of Whitby. Predeceased by her sister Hilary Kyriacou, London, England. Daphne will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family and many friends in Canada, England, and around the world. She enjoyed holidays in England, Cape Cod and Connecticut, and made memorable trips to Montréal and to Budapest, Hungary. A visit to Paris, with her dear friend Carol, was also a travel highlight. She loved being outdoors in Algonquin Park. Daphne enjoyed walks in the outdoors, bird watching, and gardening, and was an expert pianist, artist, and dressmaker. She was a published author, and enjoyed needlework, knitting, masses of books, and family history research. For simple pleasures, and to remember her by, never pass a bookshop or book table without stopping to have a rummage, and always enjoy a good cup of tea, a Marmite sandwich or some malt loaf, or perhaps a chip butty. If none of these things are familiar to you, then, in Mum’s words, “you don’t know what you’re missing.” Mrs. Baraczka rested at Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of cards and flowers, donations to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières or the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (www.rnli.org) would be appreciated by the family.
