Mom passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her precious Saviour Jesus in Belleville, ON with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Born in Vancouver, BC on September 11, 1934 to Frederick and Ethel Fisher. Dearly loved older sister and sister-in-law to Mark and Lin Fisher of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Loving and devoted wife for over 68 years to her beloved hubby Lloyd who predeceased her last November. Amazing, loving, and caring Mom/Mutti/Mama to Erin Prinzen (Derk) of Picton, ON, Adriane Blackwell (Andrew) of Exmoor, NB, and Derek Burke (Yvonne) of North Bay, ON. Proud and supportive Gram’r to Timothy Prinzen, Zacc Burke (Winnie), Brianna Overgaauw (Sam), Emma McQuarrie (Luke), Jacob Burke, and Geoffrey Blackwell. Loving Great Gramma (GG) to Ezra and Levi Burke and Rosie McQuarrie. In addition to Mom’s most cherished roles of wife, Mom, Gram’r, and GG, she also served as a bank teller, fighter control operator with the Canadian Forces, school secretary at Tweedsmuir Public School, volunteer at the Canadian Bible Society, and church secretary and Sunday School teacher at Lakeshore Evangelical Missionary Church. Of all of these, Mom spoke most fondly of her years as church secretary at Lakeshore. Even when robbed by dementia of countless memories, she would often say this job was the best one she ever had. Even in retirement, Mom kept busy with various ladies ministries through the church, often sharing her story of hope as a guest speaker. She loved leading women’s Bible studies and was always ready and willing to pick up others for church on Sunday mornings. Mom’s greatest love, without a doubt, was her Lord Jesus. She first met Him in a personal way at Ramstein Air Base in Germany back in 1972 … and went on to serve Him faithfully for over 62 years. Her God-honouring faith defined her life and served as a powerful witness and testimony to many. In her spare time, Mom loved making cards … cards so beautiful that many of us saved them over the years, keeping them as ‘priceless treasures’ and lovely pieces of art. Mom was always very gifted in making both simple and gourmet meals in her kitchen, much to Dad’s delight! And Mom’s green thumb was always evident with her wide array of houseplants and her beautiful gardens. For many years, she was an avid bird watcher, something she delighted in to the very end. No matter what time we got up each day as children and then in later years, we would find Mom in her ‘office’ beginning her day with reading the Bible and praying. Mom’s “happy place” was deep within the pages of God’s Word! It was no surprise for us to see her reading in her bed at night, ending her day in the same way. Arrangements were entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home in North Bay, ON. Visitation took place on Friday evening, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st before the service. Mom’s homegoing celebration and the reception, took place at Lakeshore Evangelical Missionary Church, where she worshipped with her church family for almost 50 years. Interment for both Mom and Dad … together again … at the family plot in Pembroke, ON will follow at a later date. Special thanks to the amazing staff at Hastings Manor in Belleville, ON, especially Brittney and Karyn, and many others, who took such loving and compassionate care of Mom since her arrival there last September. Thanks, too, to our dear family and friends that have supported our family this past year and a half. We are forever grateful. In Mom’s memory, donations to Lakeshore Evangelical Missionary Church … Mom’s home away from home for many years … would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
