Donald King

August 15, 1964 - August 19, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Donald “Don” King, on August 19, 2025, at the age of 61. Don hated being unwell and left this world quietly, like that person at a party who sneaks out without saying goodbye—no fuss, no drawn-out farewells, just a quick exit.
Don, who many knew as the face of Portabella, would want to be remembered for his empathy, resiliency, and vitality. He was a beautiful man, inside and out, blessed with once luscious locks and the legs of a dancer. More importantly, he possessed a rare gift for treating all people with kindness and dignity. Don demonstrated a deep commitment to his community, contributing generously to many causes and always looking for ways to help those in need.
Don is survived by his life partner, Roy Pennell of Picton, Ontario, and his siblings from St. Catharines, Ontario: Yvonne Noble (predeceased by her husband John), Faye, Les (Michelle), Ken (Karen), and Kelly (Jerry Biancaniello). He was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, and held dear by his extended family, all of whom he loved deeply. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Lenora King of Maitland, Nova Scotia.
A celebration of Don’s life will be hosted at the Waring House, in the Waring Hall, from 1-5 pm on October 4, 2025. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join in honoring his memory. If you have the capacity, contributions to any organization close to your heart would continue his legacy of giving.
