Donna Miriam Loney (nee Calnan)

With heavy hearts, we share that Donna Miriam Loney (Calnan) passed away on March 15, 2025, at the age of 91. Donna was a strong, bright, and resilient woman. Wife to the late Leland Loney, and loving mother to Danny (Michelle), Cathy (Jim), Jack (Heidi), and Martin (Vasuhi). Donna was a dear grandmother to seven grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Matthew, Kitari, Leland, Ireton, and Graydon. Donna was born in Prince Edward County and raised in Bloomfield, the youngest of three to Graydon Calnan and Edith Christy. A loving sister to the late Winona Moran (Herb) and Melba Pierce (Norman), with whom Donna always remained close. She cherished their regular lunches at Bailey’s and hours chatting on the phone. Growing up, Donna loved the arts – she was a talented artist, attended weekly dances, and spoke fondly of her memories singing with her sisters and friends. Her artistic and musical genes have passed down through generations. After attending the Ontario Business College and working at “the Income Tax” for several years, she settled down to raise a family with Leland on an apple farm in South Bay. Donna and Leland enjoyed meeting new people and sharing their love of the County while running Loney’s Bed and Breakfast. Donna enjoyed a quiet retirement in South Bay, where she spent her time bird watching and never missed her afternoon slice of pie. She pampered and walked her dogs – first Molly, then Hunter, whom she continued to walk daily well into her final months. She always kept up with her friends, family, and neighbours, and was grateful to have recently reunited with a close childhood friend. Donna had a memory like a steel trap and a deep knowledge for all those who touched her life. She could recite the life story and family tree of what seemed like every stranger who crossed her path. Her knowledge of the people of the County over the last nine decades was a rich resource and its loss will be felt by her family and the community. Thank you to everyone who reached out to Donna and the family in her final months. Thank you to Belleville Hospital, the community nurses, and Hospice Prince Edward for your compassionate care in Donna’s final days. The family will have a private burial, and will hold a celebration of life at Donna’s house in South Bay on June 29, 2025. Donations can be made in Donna’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society, Dystonia Medical Research Foundation and Hospice Prince Edward. Arrangement entrusted in the care of the Bay of Quinte Cremation Service 150 Church Street, Belleville 613-968-4807
