Dorothy Margueritte James (nee Simmons) born November 10th, 1933 at West Lake, Prince Edward County, passed December 12th, 2025 peacefully at home in Trenton, with family. Predeceased by the love of her life, husband Mawnan Fraser “Babe” James since 2002, and her parents Doras Wilkie Simmons & Agnes Ida Marchen (nee Mayne). Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her three children: Heather J. James (Richard M. Livesley) of Cobourg, Kevin F. James (Wilfred Leroux) of Merrickville, and Melanie J. James (Wendy Lulham) of Wellington. She was a cherished grandmother to Mawnan T. (Fabricia Pinero), Courtland W.A. (Dana Scanzano) and Emma “Finch” Livesley-James. Auntie Dorothy will be sadly missed by all the James and Kendall cousins. Dorothy spent childhood summers with cousins and family at her grandparents’ century farm, completed school in Trenton, and worked as Private Secretary to Senator W.A. “Bill” Fraser. After meeting Babe they built a fun filled life together around family, boating, travelling and history. Dorothy found everyone’s story interesting and made everyone feel special. She engaged in charitable efforts around Trenton Memorial Hospital, co-founded the Trent Port Historical Society and museum, and played a key role in establishing the National Air Force Museum of Canada. She taught Sunday school at Canterbury Hall and supported St. George’s Church on the Altar Guild and commemorating her husband with a stained glass window. Dorothy was a founder of Beta Sigma Phi and her sorority sisters were a bedrock of friendship for 60+ years. She was so very proud of the success of their multi-year Antique Show & Sale. She introduced her cousin Gwen James (nee Mayne) to Babe’s brother Eben and as a result, the families have spent every Christmas Day together since, as well as many business travels. Dorothy had many adventures with Gwen as the Country Cousins antique business. Her flair for design was evident in their beautiful family home and her personal stylish, fashion sense. She loved to be hostess at home, or on their boat for everyone from Lt. Governors of Ontario, and esteemed Kiwanis members to friends and family. She and Babe gave everything to their family, friends and community and enjoyed a lifetime of doing so. Donations, in lieu of flowers, are asked for Trent Port Historical Society or St. George’s Church. The family will receive guests at the Rushnell Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Trenton (613-392-2111) on Thursday, December 18th, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Trenton on Friday, December 19th, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Canon Don Aitchison officiating.
