Douglas George Pitt came to rest in his 86th year, at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home after contending with several health ailments on Friday, February 21, 2025. Doug was born and raised in Picton, a true County Boy, son of the late George and Lillian Pitt and predeceased by brother Thomas Pitt and sister Brenda Dunning. He leaves behind his loving wife Barbara (nee Tripp) of 62 years, daughters Suzanne (Glen) Staley, Melissa (Troy) Eaton and son Charles (Michelle) Pitt. Doug was a grandfather to 8 grandchildren: Lacey, Jocelyn, Jacob, Tye, Sierra, Alexandra, Chase, Emily and great-grandfather to Marshall, Maxx and Lainey. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Doug served as a member of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, and as an active life long member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 78, Picton, for the last 55 years. Doug donated his time and energy to several local committees and organizations including, lifetime member of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Prince Edward Agricultural Society Member, Orange Lodge and the Odd Fellows Band. Doug will be dearly remembered by many for his Bingo calling at both the Legion and Orange Lodge in Picton.
Doug was a retired Instrument Mechanic and Industrial Electrician at the local Picton Cement Plant and past employee of Dupont in Kingston. He will be remembered for his many hobbies, spending countless hours in his garage, wood carving, painting, chatting on his amateur ham radio, tying flies, creating jewelry from rocks that he collected, and being able to fix and tinker with almost anything.

We would also like to thank the Staff on 2-South for their care and support for his extended stay there including a special musical presentation by Bill Wood. To the many staff at H. J McFarland Memorial Home, thank you for your patience and support for Doug.
Cremation has already taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). A Celebration of Doug’s Life for all his friends and family will be held at the Picton Elks Hall, 21 Elks Street, on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 1 – 4 pm. A Private Family Graveside & Interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in the spring. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br.
