Elizabeth “Betty” Chapman

July 24, 1926 - June 22, 2024

Medical Receptionist – Campbellford/Picton, Ontario

Betty passed away peacefully at the H. J. McFarland Memorial Home, Picton, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, in her 98th year. She was born in Pontypridd, Wales, UK, of Welsh mother (Lewis) and Scottish father (McKay). Her four brothers predeceased her: Ronald, Walter (both lost in action with the RAF WWII), Duncan, and Raymond McKay.  She will be dearly missed by son Lloyd, friend Carol Rogers, niece Margaret McKay (Clifton, Bristol, UK), first cousin William Lewis and his wife Barbara (Kingston, ON) and their children: nephew Duncan McKay and family (Hampton, ON), and extended families of Johnston (Linda, Pearl)/Porter (Susan) nieces and Chapman (Donald, Douglas and late Roy) nephews. Remembered by several close County friends, the Belleville “485” neighbours and special four legged furry visitors whose lives were enriched by her kindness. Small in stature, but bustling with energy, her long time passion was the St. John’s Ambulance.  For this service, she was appointed an Officer Sister of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem by the Governor General of Canada. Betty was a keen Royalist, always up for a thoughtful discussion or laugh at current affairs. She generously offered many organizations, church socials, and friends a treat from “Betty’s Kitchen”.  She enjoyed researching herbal remedies, knitting, bingo and benefited from daily walks, nutritious meals, including raisins enhanced with three tablespoons of sherry daily.  Many thanks to the very kind and supportive staff at H. J. McFarland Memorial Home and to the doctors for the excellent care.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Service with Interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Picton, will be scheduled.  As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to: Diabetes Canada, Belleville/Hastings & Prince Edward Branch of Saint John’s Ambulance Quinte (Loyalist), or the H. J. McFarland Memorial Home in her name would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450)  www.rushnellfuneralhomes.com
