Henry Gilbert Vangesen son of David H. Vangesen and late Margret Vangesen
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Vangesen, suddenly on Christmas Eve in Victoria, BC while hoping to make his way back home to PEC. Henry made it his life’s ambition to walk the beaches of the world, and he did just that; finding many adventures along the way. Henry began blazing his trail in his late teens, when he set off out west to plant trees. He quickly decided that more awaited him and made his way to Australia. There he met his wife LeeAnne. The two then backpacked Europe. Exploring and working in Countries along the way. England, Italy, France, Scotland, and Spain to name a few. Henry had a great fondness for viewing ancient castles and indulging in cultural food. These countries filled his quest for both. He returned to PEC and was ever so proud to bring his wife and 2 small daughters, Alesia and Emily, home to meet his family and friends in the County, The visit was brief and the young family returned to Australia where Henry proceeded to push for an extraordinaly life. He found himself deep “down under” in the mines of Queensland excavating gold, copper and uranium. Driving road trains in South Australia. Teaching English on the beaches of Bali, Indonesia. Taking on training in Dubai and then accepting a position as a Seismic Exploration technician for oil and gas in Singapore. Henry flew from Singapore to his family in Australia often enough to grown wings! He accumulated so many points he could cirumnavigate the globe multiple times. Henry fit more life into his short 50 years than most could ever hope to. It was an exciting time for his family here in the County when the phone would ring and Henry was on the other end; telling all about his latest journey. We will forever and always continue to wait for those phone calls and look for him around every corner.
