Born in Picton, contentedly living in Picton, Ian passed away Wednesday January 17th in his 91st year. Notwithstanding his failing health he could be seen as recently as last month with gloves tuque and scarf, scooting around Picton in his motorized wheelchair. It was a sight to see, and the very supportive staff at The Wellings were most happy (and relieved) to see him return. After graduating from Picton Collegiate, Ian joined the Canadian Armed Forces serving 40 years and retiring at the rank of Major. He was most especially proud of his long association with the Canadian Guards. He was sent to the Nevada desert as an Atomic Bomb subject … stationed twice in Germany…served as a peacekeeper in Cyprus…stationed twice in Petawawa and in Borden… and the balance in Ottawa at NDHQ. After retirement Ian was Dominion Secretary Treasurer for ANAVETS ( Army Navy Air Force Veterans Association in Canada) for eight years. (1990-1998) His military life brought many close friends from coast to coast. Holding passionate opinions on a wide range of subjects he often wrote letters to the editor. This made him both a delight and also a bane. He had clippings and notes everywhere in his study. One of his life regrets was not being published in the New York Times. But he did try. Amongst his greatest pleasures were his Wellington lunch group and the retired Guards in Ottawa – a source for many of his ideas with his close friends. He was also someone who read everything in a newspaper front to back. He especially loved the comics. He would laugh out load. The good ones he’d cut out and share. Ian is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Carol (nee Yott). Also Mary Folkard, John Inrig and Elaine Inrig. He’s predeceased by siblings James, Betty Cork and George Inrig. There’s one less Inrig in The County. Loving father of Jamie (Paulette Lefebvre), Heather (Paul Gulyas), and Ian Stuart. Proud Grampa to Jess, Lauren, Will, Ben, and Ian Wallace. Great Grandfather to four. He loved his family very much. A Celebration of Life has been planned for Friday April 5th at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Picton, followed by Interment in Glenwood Cemetery and a reception at The Wellings. As Dad was born and passed away at the Prince Edward Memorial Hospital which he supported for many years, donations to the ‘Back The Build Fund’ would be greatly appreciated. https://www.pecmhf.ca/back-the-build
