Iona “Blanche” McDermaid

October 28, 1935 - October 4, 2024


Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not. God has you in his arms. We have you in our hearts. On October 4th, 2024 we lost an extraordinary lady, but she is now one of God’s special angels. With sad hearts we say goodbye to Iona Blanche McDermaid at the age of 88. Blanche leaves behind her husband Carman McDermaid at 70 years of marriage, her daughter Cindy Sly and her husband David Sly. Three grandchildren, Mellanie Widdefield (Peter), David A Sly (Katy), Kevin Sly (Amber). Blanche also leaves behind seven great grandchildren, John, Adrina, Hannah, Paige, Ryan, Jameson & Benjamin. Blanche had a very special spot in her heart for her niece and nephew Janet and Paul Hillier. Blanche is predeceased by her parents Muriel and Angus LeHeup also her sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Gordon Hudson. Blanche had an amazing career working in the motion picture business for over 150 pictures and series (gold card 60 year union membership). When Blanche retired, she became an avid bridge player at the Picton Bridge Club. To honour the wishes of Blanche, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Blanche’s Life will be held at Friendship United Church, Demorestville, on Saturday November 16, 2024 at 11:30 am with visitation for 1 hour prior to the Service. Rev. Barb Willard officiating. Private Family Interment at Sophiasburgh Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation “Back the Build” would be greatly appreciated by the family.
