JONES, Gertrude Anne (Mara)

November 16, 1937 to December 1, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude Jones, age 87, of London and Picton, Ontario. Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her children Lucinda (Ted Szymanis) Jones, Tim (Taylor Raths) Jones, Margaret Jones, Azen (Kevin) Bongard, grandchildren Willow and Ryan, siblings Peter Mara, John Mara, Margaret Elliott, Mary (Lyle) Moran, Tom (Tina) Mara, Elizabeth (Dave) Mears, Christine (Orland) Foster, Kathy (John) Vesterfelt, sister in law Wanda Mara, cousin David Sherlock and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Robert Jones, son Stevie, parents Margaret & Norris Mara, siblings William (Diana) Mara, Jim Mara, sisters in law Nancy Mara, Caroline Mara and niece Angie Moran. Born in Sarnia, Ontario as the third child and oldest daughter of eleven children, Gertrude’s early life was happily spent helping with her siblings and family responsibilities. The family moved to Lambeth, Ontario when she was 6 years old. She married Bob at 19, moved to London, Ontario and devoted her life to her own family and instilled so many of the values, customs and rituals that have shaped the lives of her children. She was involved in the community as a Girl Guide captain and baseball coach as well as joining Curling and Book clubs. Gertrude moved to Toronto four years ago after Bob passed away. She moved to Picton this year and although her time here was short she enjoyed it very much. Gertrude was a remarkable and strong woman whose greatest joy came from being with family and friends. She gave inspiration to all those whose lives she touched.
