Joseph Henry Kitchen

January 27, 1937 - May 13, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joe Kitchen at the Hospice Prince Edward in Picton, Ontario on May 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Joe will be remembered foremost for his big smile, hearty laugh and devotion to family and friends.  Sharen Kitchen his beloved wife and co-pilot of 55 years was by his side as his struggle with heart issues ended with grace and courage. Joe was the youngest of 8 children in a warm and loving family. He is survived by brothers Morley (Carol) and Howard (Athelia), predeceased by sisters Gwen and Bernice “Kitty”, brothers Ronald, Russell, Jack, and parents George and Elizabeth.  He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews and daughter June Bennett. A people person to his core, he shared his knowledge and love for the County on road tours; spent countless hours with many friends in Picton playing bridge; possessed an incredible mind for numbers and birth dates to impress family members; and enjoyed recalling stories of athletic feats that got better with the telling. Based out of Toronto, Joe worked for the LCBO travelling to all corners of the province as a store auditor. Weekends were spent on the edge of Lake Ontario with Sharen at their summer home, growing giant hydrangeas, sharing plants with new gardeners and helping with the Picton County Fair. Upon retirement and move back to Prince Edward County, Joe became an integral part of the success of the Picton Fair. Cremation has taken place. As per Joe’s wishes, a private family Graveside Service will be held at the Cherry Valley Cemetery at a later date in the fall. If desired, in memory of Joe Kitchen donations can be made to the Hospice Prince Edward or the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation Back the Build project. Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.milestonecremation.ca
