In Loving Memory of Joseph Stasko
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Stasko on January 7, 2024. Joseph was surrounded by the love of his family, as he transitioned peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories. Joe was born in Czechoslovakia, currently Slovakia, on February 22, 1941. Joe was the beloved husband of Mary Stasko (nee Maskal), and together, they forged a union that mirrored the enduring love and commitment celebrated in the sacrament of marriage. Their home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and shared moments, a testament to the sacred bonds they nurtured throughout their lives. He came to Canada with his wife, Mary, and son, Stanislav (Stan) in 1969. Joe’s memory will continue to dwell among us through his sons, Stan Stasko and Daniel (Dan) Stasko. Stan shares his life with Michelle Hallman. Stan has three children Ashley Underwood (Husband Frank Underwood), Steven Stasko (Fiancé Toni Eccles), and Nicole Stasko (Partner Jaden Hellmann). Dan, married to Kerri-Lynn (Aman), their love resulted in three sons Alexander, Ethan, and Nicholas Stasko. Joe’s grandchildren meant the world to him, he was filled with happiness witnessing them grow and very proud of every one of them. Joe also was proud of being a great-grandfather to Frankie and Isla Underwood, who brought an extra sparkle to his life. Joe leaves behind two sisters still living in Slovakia, along with their families, Marika Stasko and Helen Rolek. Though separated by distance, the bonds of family remained strong, and Joe’s memory will forever be cherished in their hearts. Joe was a devout Catholic, finding solace and strength in his faith. He lived a life guided by the teachings of the Church, sharing his love and compassion with those around him. His commitment to family, faith, and community reflected the principles of Catholicism, and his legacy is an embodiment of the Christian values he held dear. As we mourn the loss of Joe, let us also celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared.
Joseph’s funeral Mass will take place on January, 10th, 11:00 am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Picton. Interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, honoring his commitment to faith and compassion or the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in appreciation of the unfailing support the hospital provided through this difficult time.
