Margaret Louise Hulbert Sackett, age 96, of Crisfield, Maryland, passed away at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
She was born December 19, 1927 to Jane VanDerMark and her husband, Ivan (Orvis) Hulbert. Her childhood was spent in Susquehanna County PA, and the villages of New Milford and Great Bend Township, Cortland County NY, and the villages of Hoxie Gorge, NY, Blodgett Mills NY, and Homer NY.
Following high school, Margaret married George B. Sackett. Shortly thereafter, she and George, along with their two children, George Jr. and Colette, traveled to Switzerland for seminary studies and then to Bremen, Germany to establish Youth Bible Clubs. While in Germany, she contracted hepatitis and returned to the United States (Hallstead PA) for a lengthy rehabilitation. While living in Hallstead she became active in the P.T.A. and Girl Scouts.
Following an industrial accident involving George’s father (Floyd), Margaret, her family and George’s parents moved to Lewes DE. At this time Margaret continued her interest in Girl Scouts, first as a volunteer and later as a paid professional in the positions of Field Representative and Area Director. Her area of responsibility included Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. In 1992, Margaret was awarded Life Time Membership in the National Girl Scout Organization. Margaret and George moved to Brookview, MD where Margaret continued working for the Girl Scouts for a total of 30 years. After retirement, she became a volunteer with various reading and English language programs.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, George B. Sackett, her son, Rudi L. Sackett, her parents, her siblings; brothers Bill and Carl Hulbert, sister Caroline Anderson, and grand-daughter, Kimberly Gleaton.
She is survived by her children; George (Kim deceased), Colette (Roxy) Lancaster, Lore Sackett, and Eric (Debbie); grandchildren; Jason Lancaster, Jacob Sackett-Sanders, George Aukes, Cindy Rosado, John Atkinson and Phillip Workman. She is also survived by great and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends who celebrate her life and mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 1 PM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, 306 W. Main St. Crisfield, MD where a viewing will be from 11:00 AM until service time at 1 PM. Interment will be private at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
