Peacefully entered into rest at Kentwood Park Nursing Home, Picton, on Friday, March 14, 2025, Mary Folkard (née Inrig) of Picton at the age of 98. Mary was the daughter of the late James and Helen (née Wallace) Inrig. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh Crawford Folkard and mother of Don (Cindy) Folkard of Southampton, Bermuda. Mary was predeceased by her daughters Daphne Walsh (late Orville), and Suzanne Folkard. She was the proud grandmother of Donald Hugh Folkard, Alan (Brenda) Hanafy, and Alex (Theresa) Hanafy. Mary is also survived by her brother John Inrig and sisters-in-law Carol Inrig and Elaine Inrig of Picton. Mary was predeceased by her brother James Inrig (late Shirley), sister Betty Cork (late Art), and brothers George Inrig and Ian Inrig. She is remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews Janet Dawn, J. B., Cathy, Lori (Tom), Scott, Jamie (Paulette), Heather (Paul), Ian Stuart, and by her great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Mary was born and raised in Picton, where she met and married Hugh and raised her three children. Outgoing and sociable, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an avid golfer in the summer and a curler in the winter. When Hugh’s business took the family to Toronto in 1971, Mary developed her interest in literature and the arts. Five years later, business moved Mary and Hugh to Florida, where Mary became an avid volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the local library in Winter Haven. She also became a serious golfer in Florida, entering and winning numerous local tournaments and scoring a hole-in-one at the age of seventy-six. Mary continued to indulge her lifelong passion for golf by watching tournaments on television and discussing the players with anyone who would listen! Mary and Hugh began spending more time back in Picton upon Hugh’s retirement, taking up residence on Hill Street. Mary was a keen gardener in Picton, an active member of the congregation of St. Mary Magdalene, the Picton Golf and Country Club, and a voracious reader. The family wishes to extend its thanks and appreciation to Mary’s special friends and staff at the Manor on Loyalist Parkway, Hospice Prince Edward and Kentwood Park Nursing Home, and to Jennifer Snider, for the care and support provided to Mary.
