The world lost Miel London Worm on October 16th, 2025 at 5:41 PM in Bloomfield, as the sun was setting and the leaves were falling. Her loss was unexpected and devastating to her favourite people.
Mimi was a County cat through and through, a wild woman of West Lake with a collection of Milford and Picton Fair ribbons who loved being brushed and was famous for her fabulous birthday parties (from her first, a fondue party, to her latest, a Tiki drinking party).
Miel was adopted on August 1st, 2006 from the Mississauga Humane Society by Angie Driscoll. She was the runt in a gang of kittens bigger than her despite being younger, but she was never the smallest again. Mimi’s personality was huge, regal and unique. She was sharply intelligent with unparalleled communication skills (she answered yes/no questions on human fingers!) and she accomplished things few cats ever do. Miel was remarkable in every way – pioneering, gorgeous, brilliant, sensitive and spicy. She assisted Angie as an international film festival programmer for almost two decades, teaching herself how to pause and eject films they were reviewing and participating in numerous screenings, interviews and on-stage Q&As over the years. Miel had discerning taste and loved trying new things, she was a gourmande who ate everything from clementines to chili, tried acupuncture and laser therapy before it was common, travelled by canoe, kicksled, bike, car and train, from London to Ottawa, between Sandbanks and Black River. She was a woman of mystery and a lady of leisure who went everywhere and did everything, from beach picnics to grocery stores, dips in the pool to camping!
In 2022, Miel survived the removal of a brain tumour, a diabetic coma and re-learned how to walk. She was a medical miracle who never gave up, a caretaker to foster cats, a devoted companion and a big fan of breakfast (and in recent months, lunch and dinner) in bed!
She will be missed beyond measure by her human and furry family, friends and neighbours. Miel leaves behind a gaping hole in the hearts and hearths of all those she touched, especially her beloved best friend and partner in crime Angie, adoring caregivers Lori and Doug, “girlfriend” Alana, “guardian angel” Matai, Maren, Maea, Mike, Stoli and the students and faculty at Magic School who won’t soon forget her “kisses with teeth.”
Endless thanks go to the highly skilled and dedicated veterinary teams at Animal Health Partners, Four Paws Rehab and Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto and Prince Edward Animal Hospital in Bloomfield, for their support and TLC, with special gratitude to Dr. Marchal, Dr. Fisher, and Dr. James.
A 20th birthday celebration in Miel’s memory (with an emerald Wicked/Wizard of Oz theme) will take place next April. Until then, we won’t stop thinking about our “little purrfection” or singing her song (“À la claire fontaine”): « ça fait longtemps que je t’aime, jamais je ne t’oublierai »… She will forever and always be our “angel in a fur coat.”
