Ray Best

A larger than life presence, with his long detailed stories, amazing humour and great chuckle. Ray passed away unexpectedly on August 3rd, 2024. With many great passions and loves in life, Ray was a retired Detective and began his career with the OPP on Oct 4th, 1971 with the Picton Detachment. On March 4th, 2002 Ray transferred into the East Region Crime Unit and remained there until he retired on Dec 31st, 2004. He enjoyed cattle and farming, horse shows, hockey games, dancing and collecting antique cars. He loved nothing more than his wife of 49 years, Ejna Holst Best. A love story of the century. Together they raised their two children in the County, Zachary (Heidi Best) and Mackenzie (Joe Hagerman). They enjoyed much of their time with their grandchildren, Corbin, Charlotte, Addy and Bennett. Ray is survived by his brother and kindred spirit Don Best (Lynne Best) and his brothers Bill and David. He is predeceased by his loving older brother Jim and his parents Wally and Jean Best. Ray will be missed by all his family, friends and coworkers. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17th from 1pm-4pm at Joe and Mackenzie’s’ at 13933 Loyalist Parkway, Picton.
