Raymond “Cline” Pierson

April 16, 1946 - February 16, 2025

In the arms of his true love and with his daughters by his side, Cline finally stopped working late Sunday afternoon. He always lived his life as he chose to and it was no different in death. Cline’s life was full. At a very early age, he lost his mother. The village mothers looked out for him and he never forgot them or their kindness. This upbringing gave him a love for Wellington and its people that many do not experience. Cline began working in Frank Brimley’s Lucky Dollar in his teens. He later bought the business and ran it for several years before building the IGA across the street in 1980. The store stands as a cornerstone in downtown now as a Foodland. The store allowed him to keep doing what he loved best and be with the people of the town. His dedication to the community led him into local politics. He served on the Wellington Utilities and later was elected to serve on the County Utilities after amalgamation. He also served on the Hospital Foundation Board of Directors for many years and was part of the governing body working to get a new hospital. He was a supporter of the new arena when it was built. He looked forward to the Dukes home games, but it was talking to the fans that brought him the most enjoyment. A quiet philanthropist, Cline’s generosity was frequent and far-reaching, always without fanfare or hype. He didn’t care if people knew. Cline wore many hats over the years, but more than anything, he was a loving husband to Linda Lou, an amazing father to Amy (Jason) and Addie (Leonel). He was a proud Grampy to Sophie, Avery, Jackson, Naylan and Jasper. Cline will be missed by sister-in-law Joanne Pierson and nephews Paul, Don and Jay. Cline fiercely battled an insidious disease, Lewy Body Dementia, and when he decided he had endured enough, he willed himself his peace. He is reunited with his father Harry, mother Nina, step-mother Cora and sisters June and Mona, and brother Ross. No doubt he is also spending time with some of his best friends, his father-in-law Bill and his mother-in-law Jane and is holding his granddaughter Laurel. Cline’s family would like to extend their gratitude to his neighbours and friends in the community who looked out for him in his time of need. To the staff of Foodland, we can’t thank you enough for your love, patience and respect for him when he showed up to work in the store he loved, especially these past few difficult years. Thank you to Dr. Burrows and Dr. Szymanska, nurses France, Kristie and Michela for their excellent care. Thanks also to our old friend John Cole for his kind concern. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Cline’s Life will be on Wednesday, March 5th from 2-4 at in the Highline Hall at the Wellington & District Community Centre. Family burial will take place in warmer weather. Memorial Donations to the PEC Memorial Hospital Foundation ‘Back the Build’ would be appreciated by his family. Arrangements entrusted to the Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington.
