Richard Alan Istead

June 9, 1952 - June 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Alan Istead, a lifelong resident of Prince Edward County, who passed away at the age of 73.  Richard (Alan) is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Joanne Istead (nee Daley), and his beloved children Barbara (Brian), Christine (Rodney) and Amanda (Chris). He was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his father, Roland Istead, and his siblings, Mark, Gayle, Karen, Sandra, Wayne, Peter, Valerie, and Gary.  He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia (nee Leavitt). A hardworking man, Alan was a skilled Millwright who dedicated much of his life to supporting local farmers.  He had a true passion for hunting, boating, and fishing. In his downtime, Alan perfected his craft on the smoker.  Always trying different ways to smoke meat. Known for his hearty laugh, he brought joy to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In keeping with Alan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 from 12 – 5 p.m. at the family home, 18971 Loyalist Parkway, Consecon.  All who knew Alan are warmly welcome to join us in sharing memories, laughter and stories in his honour. If desired, donations in memory of Alan to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Rushnell Funeral Homes – Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450).
