In these times of financial stress and anxiety, when many business men in every locality are feeling the effect of the general disarrangement of commercial interests, due to the great war now in progress; it would seem very fitting to remind our readers, residents of the town and county, that they can do much to help in the present situation by being loyal to their own community.
This spirit has been in evidence in many ways during the past few months. “Made in Canada” goods are being advertised and bought in preference to foreign made goods.
Canadian firms are getting the preference where they can supply the requirements of the customer.
This is perfectly right and commendable. And if this course is justified from a national standpoint, why is it not the correct attitude in reference to your own community? The Prince Edward County farmer has a big crop of apples that are being largely wasted. Why not help him by buying liberally of his produce to supply your needs? The town merchant may need just the money you are sending away to help finance his business, and every instinct of loyalty should prompt us to help our local tradesmen. Thousands of dollars are being sent out of this community annually for wants that your local merchant can supply just as satisfactorily. Buy your goods at home. “Be Loyal to Your Own Community.” Get your printing done at home. The local printing offices can do your work just as cheaply and give you just as good service as you can get anywhere. No resident of town or county should give an order for job printing to outside firms until they give their local printer a chance to meet outside competition.
Loyalty is a sentiment that is being loudly proclaimed just now, but let us never forget that loyalty, like charity, rightly begins at home.
