The annual outing of the Picton Motor League was held at Huyckes’ Point and Wellington on Thursday afternoon last. The weather was ideal for this event and those who took the run thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful drive to Huyckes’ Point.

At 1.30 the cars gathered at the Royal Hotel, Picton, and as soon as they were loaded started off on their trip, the Secretary, Mr. C. Clapp Spencer, leading with his car beautifully decorated with Union Jacks and banners suitable to the occasion.

At the close of the addresses the programme of sports was run off with Mr. H. M. Moxon in charge as starter and Mr. N. D. Gilbert as judge.

All of the events were closely contested except the bald headed man’s race in which President G. M. Farrington won both first and second prizes. It is stated that this race was protested but the protest was disallowed. The tug-of-war between Picton and Bloomfield teams was most exciting. The odds seemed to be in favor of Picton team, owing to the fact that they had several heavyweights in their line-up, but though the Bloomfield men were lighter they won out. One and a half minutes was the time allowed for this contest and it was keenly contested, but Bloomfield men took the rope inch by inch from the start, never losing any ground until time was called when they were declared the winners with about three feet of a gain.

The pipe race created a great deal of amusement, the first and second prizes consisting of five and three gallons of gasoline respectively were divided among the four contestants, each sharing equally. This was due to the fact that the race was disputed and the contestants having to go over the course again some two or three times.

At the close of the sports the party returned to Hotel Alexandra where a most excellent supper was enjoyed on the spacious verandahs.
