The unusually hot dry weather of the past two weeks has been most favorable for the harvest of the immense hay crops with which this county has been favored this year. Owing to the rank vigorous growth during May and June, hot, dry weather was needed for curing the hay, and the result will be that it will be gathered into the barns in excellent condition.

This hot weather has been very trying, not only to those working in the fields, but also to the shop and factory workers as well. In the cities there have been many prostrations and some deaths from the heat. The only people with whom this hot weather is really popular are the ice cream vendors. Those whose means and inclinations enable and dispose them to spend the hot weather at the seashore or along the shores of our Bay of Quinte or Lake Ontario find their discomfort mitigated. During these hot days the motor car is most popular. After the hot day a motor run of a few miles in the evening is most enjoyable. On the Thursday half-holidays and on Sunday afternoons the many beautiful spots on Prince Edward County’s extended shore lines have many visitors. This county has many beauty spots such as Huyck’s Point, Wellington, the Sand Banks, East Lake Outlet, Salmon Point, Point Petre, Point Traverse, Port Milford, Waupoos, Cressy, Prinyers, Lake-on-the-Mountain, etc., where picnic parties gather. Many of these places have excellent bathing beaches, while a few offer special attractions such as music, dancing, etc.

During the summer months a trolley service to West Lake and Sand Banks from Picton would be largely patronized. If this beautiful spot were made more easy of access by modern transportation facilities being provided, it would become a much more popular place with tourists. It is not improbable that a trolley line from Picton to the Banks via Bloomfield would be a paying proposition. With Hydro-Electric power available in the near future this scheme should be carefully considered.
