Ransome D. Stone, aged 26 years, Syracuse, N. Y., forger and auto thief, and who was recaptured at Picton last week by Constable Biddle and provincial police, was taken to Kingston on Friday on the steamer Brockville by Officer Beckwith, of Auburn prison, and was taken over on the steamer Waubic in the afternoon to the United States. Stone was found on a farm owned by Elmer Young, brother of Miss Ethel Young of Syracuse, who was said by prison authorities to have engineered the escape of Stone from the prison road camp.
Officer Beckwith could give no information on details of the escape of the prisoner, the latter refusing also to say anything. Officer Beckwith stated that Stone was arrested by provincial and county police at Picton, through information circulated by the United States authorities, such as a description of the convict, etc. The officer did not arrive in Picton until 7.45 Thursday night, after Stone was placed in the jail and Officer Beckwith left with his prisoner at six o’clock Friday morning on the steamer Brockville.
