Mother Nature and the weather man put their heads together here on Monday and the result of their collaboration was a perfect day with a snappy breeze blowing that facilitated the efforts of the members of the Belleville, Kingston and Trenton Yacht Clubs, but which did not prevent the power boats of the Prince Edward Yacht Club from giving a finished display of their various talents on the occasion of the third annual regatta held off Vandusen’s Cove.
The setting was perfect. Brilliant sunshine poured down on foam-crested water. Green-fringed hills framed a natural amphitheatre that was alive with color. On the shore at Vandusen’s Cove a thousand spectators thrilled to the various events. Motor cars lined the roadways seeking a point of vantage. Private craft littered the waterway. Luxurious cabin cruisers dropped anchor alongside the ordinary rowboats. The bay was a riot of color.
Perhaps one of the outstanding features of the affair was the precision and dispatch with which the events were run off. Race followed race with machine-like precision. There were no hitches.
Culminating a splendid day of nautical sport was the ball given by the officers and members of the Prince Edward Yacht Club at the Armories in the evening. The Commodores orchestra, of Belleville, was in rare form and dispensed rhythms which kept the four hundred couples present in dancing humor.
Shortly after ten o’clock, Commodore E. M. Young made the presentation of the beautiful prizes to the fortunate winners.
That the third annual Regatta was a success there is no doubt, and the officials of the club are to be complimented, not only for the splendid attractions offered, but for the fine organization of the various events which kept the large crowd of spectators in a state of continuous excitement.
Their efforts to please and entertain lovers of nautical racing gained a new high in appreciation, as evidenced in the large crowd that enjoyed the affair. Keen interest was shown in the sailing races, and no doubt the local club officials will make a joint sailing regatta an annual institution.
