What kind of a county is Prince Edward going to be after the war? Is it going to be able to attract, to keep and hold the returning soldier as a citizen, a worker and a buyer in our towns and villages? Is it going to march ahead—or is it going to seed? Will there be planning … business planning, recreational planning … planning for better schools … better opportunities for making a decent living on the farm—in a word, planning for a living?
It all depends upon the amount of thought and cooperation that is given to the problems NOW!
When Joe left home five years ago, he knew what he was going to do after the war.
He was coming right back to Prince Edward County. He was going to take up his old job on the farm, in the local store, driving a truck, resume his teaching, carry on his business, or maybe he was going to finish his education.
Right now Joe isn’t so sure. He’s been around. He’s seen things. Between campaigns in Italy and France, between combat missions over the continent of Europe, our Joes have had time to do some thinking. It’s given him an itch to move on. Maybe to bigger things and better opportunities he’s heard about. Maybe just for a change of scene.
Joe has heard and read a lot about the good jobs, the bigger futures, in the metropolitan centres. Places where he can use those new service-taught skills he’s learned. Places in which he can make sufficient money for a comfortable living, enough to settle down and raise a family.
YET—deep in his heart, Joe doesn’t want to leave his home in Prince Edward County. Prince Edward is HOME. He sort of likes the Home County. Joe and all his buddies would rather grow with Prince Edward IF PRINCE EDWARD IS READY TO GROW WITH THEM.
Our returning servicemen and women want a LIVE place in which to live. They want a county with home industries, modern stores, good schools, good government. They want a place to live where they can not only make a living but enjoy life among those they love. They want a county with a future.
They want the sort of place that we can help Prince Edward become if we START NOW.
We’ve done a lot of talking about what we need … when are we going to see some ACTION?
