Bridge and Promotion Committee appointed by the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce met at the residence of Harry G. Blakely on Thursday evening when the following resolution was adopted at the conclusion of extended discussion.
“That the location of a Bridge to the County of Lennox be at Glenora, Also, that a delegation be appointed from Chambers of Commerce and County Councils to wait on the Provincial Government to request that a preliminary survey be made”.
At Thursday’s meeting, Chairman Harry Blakely called on each member in turn to express his opinion. Roland Barker of Sophiasburgh refrained from voting on the resolution favoring the Glenora location, owing to the viewpoint of many residents of that Township favoring a Bridge in the Green Point area.
It was clearly understood by committee members that provincial engineers might find some physical condition at the Glenora crossing which would make it impossible to construct a Bridge at that point.
Although unanimously favoring the Glenora to Adolphustown bridge location survey as the first step in establishing a bridge to serve many people and enlarging traffic, nevertheless, committee members made it clear to each other that they would support the establishment of a Bridge at any feasible point to connect Prince Edward with Lennox.
1975: Mayor urges Clean-up
Mayor Donald King urged that more care be taken to keep the streets of Picton clean while addressing the Picton town council on Monday. “The streets of the town are in very poor shape on Sunday morning,” he said, “there are papers and litter all over the street. I personally find this very upsetting.”
He said that Sunday is a day when many people visit Picton and he said “I want Picton to be a clean town.” In connection with this he said he had spoken to the chief of police to ask him to enforce anti-littering laws. Earlier in the day Mayor King told Chamber of Commerce members that new brushes had been obtained for the town sweeper and that larger more stable bins had been obtained for waste disposal.
