To the Editor of The Picton Gazette:
Today a copy of your newspaper was handed to me by one of your subscribers. After reading many of your interesting items, in the Friday edition, I eventually fell upon the article about which I write.
It seems that certain adult members of your municipality are somewhat prejudiced toward the prevailing era of Rock ’n Roll, and it appears that a few of these people expressed emphatically that they had nothing whatsoever to do with the recent expedition of young enthusiasts who ventured to Toronto to see their favorites of the Juke Box world in person.
We are sure that you will recall, not so long ago, that you and many of your now adult subscribers were in a similar stage of life, where you were looked upon as you, in turn, look upon the teenager of today. Today’s teenager had perhaps a different title yesterday and whether he was known as “Hep Cats” or “23 Skidoo” fans I am sure that he was between the ages of 12 and 20.
We ask you, the adults, to ask yourselves these questions: Did your parents not frown on the Charleston and the Raccon Coats and were you not once in the position that we find ourselves in today?
Maybe this all comes with growing old but we are surę that if you can remember your opinions, likes and dislikes at the age of twenty or so, you can see the adult ridicule that the teenager of today has to eat simply because he is not granted the opportunity of setting his own table.
We hope that you will print this in your informative and influential paper for the publics’ eye, as a rebuttal against the previous Rock ’n Roll article.
We prefer to remain anonymous simply because we doubt that there is ample space in this column for the names of all of today’s teenagers (tomorrow’s adults) whose opinions are summarized above.
