What this reporter knows about commercial rock music could be written on a grain of sand… but that was last week, before spending two days watching the group Honeymoon Suite as they put together a four minute music video.
Filming took place at several sites in Prince Edward County, including the ferry at Glenora, the Salmon Point Lighthouse and Sandbanks Provincial Park.
Intended to be a low key operation, it wasn’t long before most everyone knew the whens and wheres of the filming, especially the high school age students—as is often the case in the County.
Bright and early at 6 a.m. the 60 crew members, 17 “beautiful” girls and five band members were on location amidst the sand dunes at Sandbanks park, under the watchful eye of Park Superintendent Les Kobayashi. Lengthy preparations went into each set up for the shots of the band and the beach and beach scenes, featuring in some instances county people and props.
The four minute music video is a “marketing tool” for the group and will be shown in England (release date is June 14) to promote Honeymoon Suite’s newest single called “Wave Babies”. It will also be seen by those TV viewers who have the Much Music channel.
The teenagers who had gathered at the film site certainly knew the group and their music.
The braver ones gathered up autographs as the band members wandered around the sand dunes waiting for their turn “under the lights”. Compact cameras were everywhere and voices could be heard saying, “Oh no, I’ve run out of film.”
This reporter overdid the normal rationing and shot several rolls of (black and white), perhaps carried away with the glamour and glitter of the moment.
The beachwear was definitely “alluring”, judging from remarks by young men gathered around the film site, as the 17 ‘beautiful’ girls were filmed in their swimsuits.
