The road keeps calling famed Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Daniel Lanois.
This time, it’s bringing him to Prince Edward County.
Mr. Lanois’s limited 2025 Ontario Summer Tour stops at The Regent Theatre for a pair of shows Aug. 14 and 15. The two-night stopover features Trio, with drummer-vocalist Jermaine Holmes and bassist-vocalist Jim Wilson.
The seven-time Grammy award winner said new music keeps on guiding him through the labyrinths of song, messages and inventions.
“As music rides the airwaves, we continue to troubadour our way to the stage for that exchange we love — live performance.”
Lanois explains that the Trio began on the outskirts of Berlin in a small chapel, their three-part vocal harmonies enhanced by the acoustics.
“The chapel acoustics were such that the vocals sounded beautiful. We chose to keep our instruments quiet and let the vocals fill the night,” he recalled, adding, “more to come from this dynamic configuration, by live shows and otherwise.”
Mr. Lanois continues to make magic in the music industry from behind the mixing board and in the studio. He recently saw a spike in new listeners thanks to a popular British artist. Fred Again is an English record producer, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DJ with a massive global following. He made Mr. Lanois’s 1995 collaboration with Emmylou Harris, “Where Will I Be,” the lead track on his latest album.
“I didn’t have to do much and now I’m being heard by millions of people,” Mr. Lanois says with a laugh.
He explained Fred Again searches social media for new talent, finding “back porch soul singers” and offering a modern Electronic Dance Music take on standards.
“I see him as a purveyor of modern culture and he’s really inspired me.”
Trio and Mr. Lanois visit Picton much in the same vein: musical exploration featuring one of Canada’s best producers.
“We are on the road with a musical tool box and bring the studio to the stage,” Mr. Lanois explained. “These modern methods of presenting multi track sound allows us to reach out and explore the unknown artistically.”
