The newest addition to the Picton Pirates lineup endeared himself to his new teammates Saturday night.
Aiden Treverton collected a Cole Stevenson feed with 2:40 left in the contest and beat Port Hope’s Brayden Friedrich to bust a 2-2 tie and give Picton the winning margin and move the local’s record to 9-10-1.
For Mr. Treverton and defenceman Owen Findlay, leaving the Jack Burger Sports Complex Saturday night must have provided a unique feeling as their former club in Campbellford has yet to win a game so far this season. Pirates General Manager Chris Kornblum dealt forwards Owen Ellis, Luke Wilkes, Tyler Hall and the rights to Jr. A goalie Ethan Beattie to the Rebels, receiving Mr. Findlay and Mr. Treverton in return.
For Mr. Treverton, the game-winning tally was his second goal of the contest as the Stirling native answered a Spencer Eriksson goal in the first period that saw the teams skate into intermission tied 1-1.
In the second, Mr. Stevenson found Jakob DaCosta at 6:13 and his blast pushed Picton ahead 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Nate Burelle tied the game at 2-2 early in the third but Mr. Treverton’s heroics and an outstanding 46-stop effort by goalie Ethan Schwarz secured the Picton win.
On Thursday, the Pirates narrowly missed out on taking at least a point in a 5-4 loss to visiting Amherstview.
With goaltender Nic McGrayne on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, Zach Brooks found himself at the side of the Amherstview net with five seconds to play.
Mr. Brooks’ attempet at tying the game would bounce of Jets goalie Marc-Olivier Robert’s pad, off the post and harmlessly away from the Amherstview net.
Mr. Stevenson, Ian Harrison, Luc Amat and Gerrit Kempers all had goals in the loss and all of those tallies coming in the second period.
The Pirates host Frankford on Thursday and travel to Napanee on Friday
