Base31 is offering the best season of live music in this community’s history. Full Stop.
Nine star-studded concerts and two weekend festivals feature the best
Canadian musical acts touring today. And no matter your taste.
There’s something for everyone.
Just over a month from now, on June 15, Indie Rock icons Tokyo Police Club say hello to Prince Edward County. Or should I say goodbye. Sadly, theirs is a farewell tour. Formed in Newmarket in 2005, the four-time Juno-nominated band has performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and even featured on an episode of Desperate Housewives.
A week later, Matthew Good And His Band look to blow the doors off the Drill Hall. Mr. Good came to the forefront of the Canadian music scene in the late 90’s with hits Everything is Automatic, Hello Time Bomb and Indestructible.
June comes to a country-themed crescendo with the Pretty Excellent Country Music Festival featuring High Valley June 28 and the Reklaws June 29. Stuart and Jenna Walker are the brother and sister duo behind the Reklaws. The North Dumfries natives have been churning out platinum hits since 2007.
For Alberta-based High Valley, this is a return trip to Picton. The Canadian Country greats have produced a string of top-ten hits and platinum albums since playing in front of the Picton Grandstand in 2013.
Post Canada Day, Indie artist Bahamas opens the Drill Hall July 6. The solo artist has shared the stage with fellow folksters The Lumineers, City and Colour, and Feist. With a half dozen studio albums to his credit, the artist has opened for Wilco and Jack Johnson.
The folk love continues with The Strumbellas July 13. Their smash debut single Spirits has been certified five times platinum.
A collaboration between BIGLAKE Arts and Base31 sees Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band performed by the Art of Time Ensemble at the end of July. The eclectic talents of Steven Page, Chris Murphy, Andy Maize and Jeremy Fisher perform the Beatle’s iconic 1967 album in its entirety.
Montreal-based Indie rockers Half Moon Run are next, on July 27.
On the Civic Holiday long weekend, all highways lead to Base31 for Tom Cochrane’s first visit to Prince Edward County. Concert goers will have No Regrets singing along to ‘Sinking Like a Sunset’ as the sun sinks low on August 3.
Then Ottawa-based Nick Durocher, better known as TALK, brings his infectious modern rock hit Run Away to Mars to the Drill Hall August 10.
The season closes out with Canada’s biggest rock and roll talents as well as a pair of fan favourites who are making return stops to the county. The Rock The County Music Festival sees maritime darlings The Trews bring their popular Canadian heavy rock on August 23. The following night, Odessa’s own The Glorious Sons come to the County in support of their fourth studio album Glory.
The last weekend in August welcomes Honeymoon Suite and Trooper.
Trooper stopped by Picton last in 2007 while Honeymoon Suite thanked the County with a concert in the mid-1980’s for serving as a backdrop for their iconic Wave Babies music video.
