The Prince Edward County Soccer Association is celebrating a season of growth, milestones and community support in 2025.
This year saw total enrolment reaching 973 players — 143 in PECSA’s adult league and 830 in youth divisions. Numbers are down slightly over 2024 but still up more than 100 participants since 2023.
A remarkable 56 house-league teams, including 20 Tim Hortons-sponsored Timbits teams, made up the season. In total, 46 community sponsors supported PECSA programming.
President David Wolcott said a major highlight this season was the introduction of separate boys and girls divisions from the U8 to the U17 age groups.
“This now provides dedicated divisions from U8 through U17, encouraging greater participation from girls and, by all accounts, creating a positive and rewarding experience for them.”
This season also marks the 20th anniversary of the Johnson Street Fields — a truly outstanding community facility. A hot summer of soccer culminated in the Gary Parks Soccer Festival at the Fields on the weekend of August 9-10.
It’s the 20th anniversary of the Johnson Street Fields. Despite challenging weather — May’s deluges, wildfire smoke, and scorching heat — the fields remained in excellent
condition. That was thanks to the joint
efforts of a dedicated volunteer board and the municipality.
The beautiful fields are a just source of pride for the
entire community.
Despite a challenging summer for weather due to May deluges, wildfire smoke, and scorching heat in June and July, the fields remained in excellent condition. Mr. Wolcott said this is due to the joint efforts of the dedicated volunteer board and the municipality, whose ongoing care and maintenance ensure they continue to be a source of pride for the community.
Looking ahead, PECSA has big plans. Fundraising has begun for the construction of a new storage shed to better serve programming. This year also marked the first full season using PECSA’s autonomous line painter, an invaluable addition that has saved countless pitch preparation hours.
The President extended a heartfelt thank you to the small but dedicated volunteer board, whose commitment and countless hours keep the program thriving.
“To our referees, who do an incredible job ensuring the game is played fairly and with respect; and to our coaches, who volunteer their time and effort to create a memorable season for our players, thank you,” he said.
