The U15 Heidelberg Materials Kings have a date with the Frontenac Flyers at the OMHA championship tournament in Halton Hills later this month.
The Kings vanquished the Stirling Blues in a tidy 3-1 road effort Tuesday night.
The squads traded goals early in the first. Weston Byford had the ice breaker 3:17 into the contest, converting a Caleb Krentz feed past Stirling starter Kendrick Vissor. Kings forward Easton Vanhecke also picked up a helper on the play.
Stirling was quick to respond and just over 90 seconds later, Alex Hadely beat Kings goaltender Rilye Monk to the goal line to make it 1-1.
Playing for their playoff lives, the host Blues had some momentum in the first period however Kings forward Jack Thompson fired a dagger late in the frame to put the locals ahead to stay.
The County goal scorer turned in a wonderful individual effort, putting a move on a Stirling defender and beating Mr. Vissor with just 33 seconds left in the frame.
After a scoreless second, the Kings salted away the series with two and half minutes to go in the third.
Captain Parker Osborne and Connor Davidson teamed up to spring Alex Shields who made no mistake in tickling the twine to make it a 3-1 final.
The Kings are off to St. Catherines this weekend to take part in the annual Warrior Tournament and return home to play the Flyers in a Best of Three series. While the schedule has yet to be determined, it will be played through the week as the winner must be decided by the end of day Friday, March 22.
