At the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday March 29, 2022, Mary Blackburn-Forrester passed away with her family at her side at the age of 84. Predeceased by husbands Gary Alvin Blackburn and Ralph Vincent Forrester, sister Lois Bruckshaw and parents Emily M. Hughes (nee Workman) and Captain Bert Hughes. Loving step-mother to Pat (Steve Morgan), Eric, Brenda Martin (Sara Jane), Grant (Cindy), Cindy (Dan Spencer) and Norm (Linda), loving aunt to Cheryl (Ike Westervelt), Brenda (George Beauchamp), John Harrington (Teresa), Mary (Jamie DeMille) and the late Lois Marie McConkey. Mary was a much loved grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was born on February 25, 1938 at Cherry Valley and attended Mary St. School, PECI and Peterborough Normal School graduating in 1959. She taught in Toronto for 16 years where she met and married Gary Blackburn and returned to the County to continue teaching and to farm. Mary lost Gary in 1993 and retired from 36 years of teaching in 1995, the year she met Ralph. They married in 1996 and enjoyed all the travelling, camping and jamborees, living in Greenbush on the farm for many years. Ralph passed away in 2013 and Mary remained a kind step-mother to seven wonderful sons and daughters and treated them like her own children. Mrs. Blackburn-Forrester rested at the Rushnell Funeral Home – Picton Chapel, 33 Main St. Following cremation a family committal will take place in Cherry Valley Cemetery.
