BLAIR, Kelvin
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kelvin Blair, 84. He passed peacefully with family at his side at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Kelvin was the beloved husband of Myrtle (née Snell) for 55 years. He was the loving father of Kathryn (Kevin Hedge) and Jeffrey (Kathy Walker) and grandfather of Cecily and Cameron Hedge and Aiden and Sarah Blair. He was the son of the late Wilfred and Muriel Blair (née Robson) and the brother of the late Janice Canniff. Born in Regina in 1938, Kelvin lived as a boy in Walpole, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Gimli, Brandon, Kapuskasing, Ottawa, and Oshawa. In 1958 he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce and was stationed at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Clinton, Parent, and Falconbridge. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of New Brunswick and a year at the Toronto Teachers’ College, he began his career. In 1967, for what he often described as his Centennial Project, he married Myrtle. They moved to Bloomfield in 1968. Kelvin taught history (mostly) for 27 years at P.E.C.I. where he was well known for his History of Inventions class and the Old Engines Club. His enthusiasm for old iron and mechanical artefacts led him to join the Quinte Flywheels with which he was an exhibitor for many years. Other interests included auctions, travelling with a purpose, the backroads of Canada and the United States, Canadian military history, and old cars. Kelvin was also a long time member of the Bloomfield United Church and the AOTS. Sincere, honest, and generous, Kelvin had a genuine interest in other people. With his keen observations of human nature and his appreciation of the absurd he had much material for the stories he loved telling. To share your stories, please join us at the Bloomfield United Church, Saturday May 06, 2pm. Memories and condolences can also be shared at https://www.rushnellfuneralhomes.com/. In memory of Kelvin, donations to the Bloomfield United Church or the Arthritis Society Canada would be appreciated.
