The County Foundation has partnered with Alternatives for Women on a capital fund for their campaign to build new transitional housing for women.
“We are thrilled to establish a fund with The County Foundation and have community-rooted support that will help ensure a long-term impact for survivors in PEC. Our vision for the new transitional housing is truly a home of hope and healing, ensuring survivors have a transitional home that is dignified, accessible and safe,” said Julie Watson, AFW Executive Director.
The campaign has raised $100,000, aided by a matching contribution of $50,000. Donations to the fund can be made through The County Foundation’s Canada Helps webpage.
An upcoming AFW fundraiser features the documentary We Lend a Hand: The Forgotten Story of the Ontario Farmerettes. The 49-minute film explores the Ontario Farm Service Force, which put 40,000 volunteer teenage girls from Ontario and Quebec to work at farms across Southwestern Ontario between 1941 and 1952.
The film screens at The Regent on June 8, with director Colin Field and author Bonnie Sitter on hand for a Q & A discussion afterwards.
