The annual Community Christmas Carol Service at Picton United Church again featured full pews filed with generous guests.
Organizer Pat Bentley reported that more than 1,000 people attended Dec. 3 to enjoy a procession of eight participating choirs. The groups came from Queen Elizabeth School, Sonrise Christian Academy, the Prince Edward County Ministerial Association, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Emmanuel Baptist Church,, Picton, South Bay and Cherry Valley United, the Prince Edward County Free Methodist Church, and Ensembi Machari.
Between the choir presentations, Janet Kellough read scripture about the birth of Jesus and the audience joined together in carol singing.
Once again this year, there was a free will offering collected for local organizations who work to serve the community at Christmas time. Representatives from the Salvation Army, The Children’s Foundation Christmas Angel Tree campaign, and the Picton United Church County Food Bank each received $811 to go toward their seasonal projects.
Rev. Rick Hamilton noted the Prince Edward County Ministerial Association played a big role in the evening’s success covering advertising costs and other expenses.
